Until the 18th century, cattle of various colours were bred along the North Sea and Baltic Sea coasts. It was not until after 1750
that the black-and-white colouring became the norm. Today, it is impossible to imagine northern Germany without its black-and-white cows.
I originally created this illustration for the ‘Landkäserei Holtsee’. It is one of 12 illustrations for a calendar.
The print run is limited to 50 copies per format.
The original illustration on which the print is based was created by hand in graphite and watercolour.
